Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a holistic treatment that uses thin, sterilized needles placed in specific areas of the body to relieve pain, promote wellness, and address various health conditions. Unlike conventional treatments, acupuncture targets the root cause of issues without side effects, making it a popular choice for those seeking natural health solutions.

While acupuncture is well-known for effective pain relief, it’s also a powerful method for addressing physical and emotional concerns. Traditional Chinese Medicine views pain and illness as disruptions or imbalances in Qi (energy), which acupuncture restores to support harmony within the body.

At Above & Beyond Acupuncture, we share the core values of Traditional Chinese Medicine, believing that true health comes from treating the mind, body, and emotions as one interconnected system. With this philosophy, we provide personalized attention to every patient, helping them achieve and maintain balance and overall well-being.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy, a practice with roots in ancient cultures, has been widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to relieve stagnation in energy (Qi) and blood. By applying suction, cupping helps clear energy blockages, which can stem from physical injury or other ailments. This therapy also assists in reducing toxins, treating respiratory issues like asthma, easing pain, and even alleviating emotional conditions such as depression.

Cupping uses suction to bring toxins and built-up waste from deeper tissues to the skin’s surface, where the body can more effectively eliminate them. According to practitioner Susan Johnson, this technique not only removes blockages but also revitalizes the area by drawing in fresh blood, which supports natural healing processes.

Used alone or alongside other holistic treatments, cupping offers notable benefits, often accelerating healing and providing relief. By working on deeper body layers, it addresses pain, improves circulation, and promotes lasting wellness in a short time.

Lifestyle Coaching

When patients begin treatment at Above & Beyond Acupuncture they are presented with new perspectives, ideas and challenges.  Lifestyle coaching is a way of offering the necessary support and structure to those going through transition and transformation.  By using goal-oriented methods, practitioners and patients are able to establish a lifestyle plan that allows them to proceed at a pace they feel most comfortable with.

Lifestyle coaching is an amazing compliment to acupuncture and cupping; it enhances the effectiveness of other alternative treatments as well.  Coaching can be used for various life challenges including; relationship difficulties, stress, fear, self-esteem issues and feeling “stuck”.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most acupuncture needles are the diameter of a human hair, they are very thin and somewhat flexible.  While you may feel a few during insertion, any sensation should fade away rather quickly.  There are some areas of the body that are more sensitive than others, but for most acupuncture points you will not feel a thing.  If there is any discomfort, your practitioner will address is right away.

How many sessions will I need?

Acupuncture is a gentle medicine that is holistic, it focuses on supporting the body’s ability to heal itself by promoting balance and alleviating stagnation.  With that said, there is an incremental nature to how acupuncture treatments work so it may take more than one session to see significant results.  Every patient is unique so it is very difficult to say exactly how many treatments is may take to provide resolution to acute or chronic conditions.

What parts of the body can I have treated with cupping therapy?

At Above & Beyond Acupuncture we only cup the base of the neck, back and shoulders. That is our area of specialty, and we do not cup anywhere else on the body. Please note, we do not offer wet/blood cupping, nor do we cup patients under the age of 18.

Is acupuncture right for me?

Acupuncture can help provide relief to many different health challenges, but it may not be right for everyone.  It is important to do some research to better understand the medicine and what is can, and cannot, offer you.  If you have any specific questions, please contact us through our website and we will do our best to respond as soon as possible.

What should I avoid before and after an acupuncture treatment?

We suggest avoiding exercise, eating a heavy meal and drinking excessive amounts of water right before an acupuncture treatment.  After the session is over it’s best to avoid any physical labor/exertion or stressful situations as your mind, body and spirit will be in a very relaxed state.
